Universitas Indonesia (UI) initiated a World University Ranking in 2010 known as the “UI GreenMetric World University Rankings” to recognize campus sustainability efforts. It was intended to create an online survey to look at sustainable programs and policies at universities around the world.

In general, UI bases its assessment on the concept of environmental, economic and equity frameworks. In order to make the indicators and ranking categories relevant to all universities. Ninety-five universities from 35 countries took part in GreenMetric 2010: 18 from the Americas, 35 from Europe, 40 from Asia and two from Australia. In 2018, 719 universities from 81 countries around the world participated. This shows that UI GreenMetric is recognized as the first and only global ranking of universities in sustainability.

Hasanuddin University first participated in 2016 until 2023, ranked 101st in the world rankings and 13th in the national rankings. Participation in UI GreenMetric can help internationalization efforts and recognition by presenting its sustainability efforts in the global arena, about the importance of sustainable issues. In addition, participation in UI GreenMetric will result in increased website visitors, increased mentions of the institution in relation to sustainability, increased correspondence with potential partners, and increased awareness of future developments.

UI GreenMetric is also one of the Performance Indicators that must be achieved by Hasanuddin University, especially at the Faculty of Agriculture. So that the Faculty of Agriculture through the Quality Assurance and Reputation Improvement Group took the initiative to socialize UI GreenMetric to the leaders of the work units in the Faculty of Agriculture. Through this FGD, the Faculty of Agriculture introduced what criteria and indicators are needed to improve the achievement of the UI GreenMetric program.

Ilham Alimuddin, ST, M.GIS, Ph.D as a resource person presented the material “Knowing UI GreenMetric and the Role of the Faculty of Agriculture in Increasing UIGM Value for Hasanuddin University.” The activity was held on Tuesday, June 11, 2024 in the Assembly Room of the Faculty of Agriculture, Hasanuddin University.
